TemPlant

Automated wireless body temperature monitoring for large animal research

Beta testing of TemPlant
TeleMetronics is looking for forward-looking scientists who are interested in beta-testing the TemPlant system and serving as launching customers. Please contact us if you are interested to collaborate with us to finalize the TemPlant system.

TemPlant® is the ultimate solution for automated accurate wireless body temperature monitoring for biomedical studies and research with socially housed large animals, from pigs up to horses and primates. TemPlant gives you very detailed and very accurate temperature readings of your animals, whether you use this for vaccine testing or for infectious disease research. TemPlant is a worthwhile and durable investment in the future of your biomedical research.

Why use TemPlant®?

Advantages
Automated body temperature monitoring of freely moving animals in biomedical studies has obvious advantages:

  • No stress-related artifacts in temperature data
  • Continuous monitoring of core body temperature to detect fever
  • Decrease in time and labor for data collection
  • Digital temperature archive for each animal
  • No animal bites for animal technicians taking rectal temperatures
  • No transmission of dangerous micro-organisms from animals to humans
  • Freedom of movement for large animals due to the 20 m transmission range of the implants

Very accurate and sensitive temperature measurement
TemPlant is the method of the future for automated body temperature monitoring of animals. The measurement accuracy is 0.1˚C and the resolution is 0.02 ˚C.

TemPlant and social housing
TemPlant allows the researcher to monitor group-housed animals. The implants use slightly different frequencies. After a learning mode procedure by the control software, TempControl, the receiver tunes in on these frequencies. Each animal carries an implant with a unique ID code. The implant sends the ID code before the recorded temperature data. The receiver is connected to a PC and the software saves the data in a database.

Data acquisition, system control software and web interface
TempControl is the software that allows the researcher to monitor several animals in one window on the screen with a live display of measurement data for each animal. Measured data can be exported to the application of choice by using the export function in Excel. The range of data for export can be selected. Upon request we can assist in synchronizing data with any other source of information such as video analysis. TempControl-Web, the web interface, offers the researcher the facility to monitor animals from any PC with Internet access.
